Sister Church Concept Working in Four Locations

"People call our church a pig pen and they will never come," a Haitian pastor said, concerning the state of the broken down building he is trying to minister in.

Bayeaux, Haiti - Mennonite Christian Fellowship Chapel

This small church of about 40 people from Stratton, Ontario has a big heart.  When they heard that the churches in Haiti were in great distress they banded together to do something about it.  A team of 4 men was organized to make the original contact with the church in Bayeaux.  On January 21, 2007 they met and found a warm reception.

This first visit involved helping them to pour a new concrete floor in the church.  They had previously sent money for a new roof.  They were so pleased to se that completed and to know that their money had really accomplished what it had been sent for.  Now they are planning another visit to provide ministry to the people of the church and to help further the ministry.

Ennery , Haiti Berean Community Church , Rochester Minnesota

The Berean church congregation sent several people and their pastor, Kevin Block, to Ennery , Haiti in 2000.  What they saw burdened them to do something about the needs of this church.  The rustic stick building was bursting at the seams with 300 people.  They returned home determined to keep in contact and pray for the pastor and individuals they met.  They gave a contribution of $10,000 for the roof of the church, which was installed by the Haitians.

They have made many trips to Haiti, working on the floor of the church, praying, loving and teaching in the church.  The results have been wonderful in encouragement for this local congregation in Haiti and the growth that has come to the people involved from the Berean church.  They are continuing to make yearly trips to further the ministry.

Coupe Plaisier, Haiti - North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren, Winnipeg, Manitoba

Alix Jean-Paul recognized a church that was growing and spiritually determined when he went to visit Coupe Plaisier.  The pastor was uneducated but had been winning people to the Lord very rapidly.  This brought persecution but they did not stop.  Their little building in the mountains was to small and ramshackle to hold any more people.

Returning home, he presented the need to his church and they responded by becoming a sister church.  As a result they have built a building and are planning to send some people to encourage the church.  With the new building in place the church has continued to grow and believes the outreach is even greater. Recently they reported many new believers.  They have grown from 150 people to 300 in a very short time!

We praise the Lord for the work of these two churches.  How can your church be involved?  Are you looking for a challenge?  Is your Missions program stall?  Think of what could happen if your church could become seriously involved directly on the field in this kind of ministry?  We welcome you!

Savin Caree, Haiti - Middle Creek Church of the Brethren, Lititz, Pennsylvania

February 2008 marked the meeting of the two churches that will now become "Sisters".  Great enthusiasm has been generated by this initial visit of 6 men from the Lititz church.  All departments are on board to participate in helping the ministry in Savin Caree become fruitful.

The first team will provide construction help and the second team will teach hygiene and parenting along with an evangelistic outreach.  Wonderful creative ideas are coming out of this church.  The Savin Caree church is very encouraged.  The pastor is thrilled with the prospect of what will be able to  be done in the ministry.

Boucan Michele - Haiti - Gregory Berean Church, Gregory, South Dakota

January 2008 was the first time the Gregory Berean took the 6 hour hike up to Boucan Michele to meet the people. There was great enthusiasm as the team approached the people burst into singing and praising the Lord! They spent time teaching and finding about life in the village.  They were told that they were the first white people to step foot on village property.  The building is started and the Gregory church is saving money for the next phase.
